2 September | The Royal Academy London to feature major Jasper Johns retrospective in 2017

The Royal Academy of Arts in London has announced plans to organize a major retrospective on the career of American artist Jasper Johns.

From September 23 through December 2017, paintings, sculptures and collages by Johns will be presented as part of an exhibition that “will give focus to different chapters of Johns’s career,” according to a press release sent by the museum. Pyotr Pavlensky — the Russian artist known for his performances involving the mutilation of his body, performed as an act of condemnation of Russian politics — has received the support of an unexpected party. To coincide with its six year anniversary in Russia, American burger chain Burger King has announced it will pay tribute to the artist with the “Pavlensky Burger”, which will be available in the company’s Russian restaurants in four different varieties. Artist and researcher Mónica de Miranda — born in Portugal to Angolan parents — will now be represented by Gallery Sabrina Amrani, Madrid. She describes her work as "based on themes of urban archaeology and personal geographies." De Miranda's work was recently shown at the Dakar Biennial, (Sénégal, 2016) and at the tenth edition of the Rencontres de Bamako: Biennale Africaine de la Photographie. (Mali, 2015) In 2016, she was nominated for the Prix Novo Banco Photo, and her work was featured at the Museu Coleção Berado of Lisbon. More information is available via the gallery’s website.
