The organisers of Documenta 14 have announced that programming for their inaugural Athens-based exhibition, which is not set to open until April 8 2017, will begin next week in the Athens Municipality Arts Center at Parko Eleftherias.

The arts center will be transformed into “an experimental public space, introducing numerous Greek and international artists, theorists, historians, and curators.” The initial week of events, running from September 14-24, includes a program called the Parliament of Bodies, for which 45 participants have been invited to carry out “exercises of freedom” in the arts center. The 11th edition of Paris’ Slick Art Fair, which was set to run from October 19-23 2016, will no longer be going ahead. The annual fair, which showcases the work of emerging artists with a focus on the French art scene, failed to attract a sufficient number of galleries to its event at Pont Alexandre III. The list of 2016’s top 200 collectors, released today by ARTnews, is replete with the familiar array of hedge fund managers, software designers and billionaire property developers. Despite a 14% drop in sales of Modern and contemporary art last year, this remained the most dominant category on the list. Russian collector Dasha Zhukova, French luxury goods magnate Bernard Arnault and US patrons Edythe and Eli Broad are among the many collectors on the list who have recently opened spaces to house private collections.
