In spite of concerns about the impact of Brexit on the London art market, Kamel Mennour has become the fourth major European art dealer to invest in a new gallery space in the British capital in recent months.

The 60 sq metre gallery is located on 51 Brook Street in the heart of Mayfair, beside London’s famous Claridge’s Hotel. The first show at Mennour’s London gallery, featuring the work of Moroccan-born artist Latifa Echakhch, will run from October 4 to November 12. More via The Art Newspaper.

The organisers of the new Art Basel Cities programme have announced that Buenos Aires has been selected as the launch city for the project. The initiative, set to begin in late 2017 and run over multiple years, aims to stage events similar to those that Art Basel runs in Basel, Miami Beach and Hong Kong, except without the accompanying art fair. Art Basel’s Global Director, Marc Spiegler, said that Art Basel Cities’ Buenos Aires incarnation would mix local and international art in a way that promotes both. More info at Art News.

ICI has released the list of nominees for the 2016 Independent Vision Curatorial Award, which recognises rising talent among early and mid-career international curators. Among the nominated curators are Élise Atangana, Diana Campbell Betancourt and Sabel Gavaldon. The winner will be selected by Franklin Sirmans, Director of the Pérez Art Museum Miami, who will present the award on October 26, 2016. See the full list at ICI.

CONTEXT, the sister fair to Art Miami, announced yesterday that it will be relocating to a new, larger facility 400 feet from its original site. This year’s edition of the fair will include exhibitors from 20 countries and 50 cities, and will present special projects including “Sound Positions,” featuring 12 listening stations, and “CONTEXT projects,” in which artists will work with new technologies. Also Known As Afrika (AKAA), the new Paris art fair dedicated to contemporary African art and design that was cancelled last year following the terror attacks in the French capital on 13 November 2015, has released a list of the 29 international galleries that will be taking part in the event. Some of the participating galleries include London’s October Gallery, the Smith Gallery in Capetown and Paris-based Galerie Vallois. The fair runs from November 11-13, 2016. More on AKAA.
