London’s Art16 fair, which last May played host to 100 galleries in the Grand Hall at London Olympia, has announced it will not be running a 2017 edition.

It appears that, rather than a permanent cancellation, the fair is merely being put on hold whilst its organisers rethink its dates and overall concept. Both the branding of the fair and its difficult position within the international art calendar are being cited as reasons for the cancellation. Co-owner Tim Etchells hinted at the possibility that Art Basel owner MCH purchase Art16 as part of its portfolio of regional fairsThe Financial Times has more.

Art Berlin Contemporary (abc), the self-styled “anti-fair” that opens for its ninth edition on September 15 2016, has significantly scaled back its exhibitor numbers this year. The exhibitor list has been reduced to almost half the size it was in recent years, with just over 60 galleries showing at the 2016 edition. The director of abc Maike Cruse claimed the decision was made in order to achieve “a more concentrated presentation.” Among the participants are MEHDI CHOUAKRI (showing the work of Saâdane Afif); CARLIER | GEBAUER (Laure Prouvost); NEUGERRIEMSCHNEIDER (Noa Eshkol); and ESTHER SCHIPPER (Christopher Roth).
