September 14 | 42 new galleries join FIAC 2016

FIAC has announced the list of exhibitors for its 2016 edition, which comprises 185 international galleries, of whom 42 are newcomers.

Alongside the main event held at the Grand Palais, the fair will include various satellite shows, including a display of sculptures at the Petit Palais, a performance festival organized in association with the Louvre Museum, and a number of public art displays and art film screenings. Some of the first-time participants include Richard Saltoun, London; Bernard Ceysson, Paris; and Experimenter Gallery, Kolkata. Art News has more.

The 2016 Praemium Imperiale International Arts Award, considered one of the most prestigious prizes in art, architecture and film, has been awarded to photographer Cindy Sherman, sculptor Annette Messager, architect Paulo Mendes da Rocha, and filmmaker Martin Scorsese. A ceremony is scheduled to take place in Tokyo on October 18 2016, at which the prize will be awarded by His Imperial Highness Prince Hitachi, an honorary member of the Japan Art Association, and his wife, Princess Hitachi. Following the termination of artistic programming at her Paris gallery on rue des Filles du Calvaire last July, Vanessa Quang has announced she is joining STERN & Cie’s Family Office as Associate Director of STERN International Art Advisory. This sub-branch of the European investment bank bills itself as a service for art collectors that offers an “academic perspective.” According to Quang, the gallery at 7 rue des Filles du Calvaire will continue to run occasional artistic projects. Hamza Walker has been hired as the new Executive Director of LAXART, the Los Angeles-based nonprofit art space. Walker, with the Hammer Museum’s Aram Moshayedi, co-curated the 2016 Made in L.A. biennial, which received widespread critical acclaim. Hamza will begin his role as Director on October 1, replacing LAXART’s founder, Lauri Firstenberg, who left the position earlier this year. More via Art News.
