Article
The Catalonian artist Jordi Colomer, known primarily for his video series, has been selected alongside the curator Manuel Segade to represent Spain at the 57th Venice Biennale in 2017.

Their project, entitled Ciudad de Bolsillo — which roughly translates as “Pocket Cities” — will focus on the theme of nomadism. Colmer, who lives and works between Barcelona and Paris, produces work that explores how the modern city conditions human behaviour. Manuel Segade is the current director of Madrid’s Centro de Arte Dos de Mayo (CA2M). Read more on Biennial Foundation.

The prolific Venezuelan collector-duo Patricia Phelps de Cisneros and Gustavo A. Cisneros have announced they will donate 102 works by 37 Latin American artists to the Museum of Modern Art in New York. The gifted works, which come from the Cisneros’s impressive collection of geometric abstraction, add to the 40 existing pieces donated by the couple to MoMA over the past 16 years. The donation includes paintings, sculptures and works on paper made between the 1940s and 1990s by artists such as Lygia Clark, Carlos Cruz-Diez, Gego, Hélio Oiticica and Lygia Pape. The donation also establishes a research institute dedicated to the study of art made in Latin America, which will be housed at MoMA’s West 53rd Street campus. Read more on ARTnews.

Christie’s has announced that it will change the way it reports the net price paid for works where a third party guarantor receives a fee for providing a guarantee, then participates in the bidding and wins the lot (which will apply to a only handful of lots each year). From now on, when a third-party guarantor is the successful bidder for a lot, Christie’s will publish the price realized inclusive of buyer’s premium and net of any financing fee. These prices will be posted on Christie’s website in the results section for the relevant sale. More info on Art Market Monitor.
