In Havana, artists come together to support the #00 Biennial

Despite the arrest (and subsequent release) of its curator Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara earlier this month, local artists are not renouncing the #00 Biennial project, slated to run from May 5 through 15 2018 in lieu of the 13th Havana Biennial.

Cuban artist Coco Fusco has in fact launched a GoFundMe campaign, aiming to raise $20,000 to cover the cost of catalogues and communications, as well as the creation of a website and possibly an app. Fellow artists Tania Bruguera and Alvaro Saavedra are also involved in the project. Italian artist Laura Grisi has passed away

The Italian pop artist (b. 1939), who was represented by legendary art dealer Leo Castelli, passed away on December 6.

Born in Greece, Laura Grisi was best known for her series “Variable Paintings” and “Neon Paintings”. In her work, she explored the idea of “variability” by creating “interactive” paintings, allowing visitors to actively engage with works and change images as they wish. Grisi’s works are in the collections of institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art of New York, the Brooklyn Museum, the Frederick R. Weisman Museum in Los Angeles and the Galleria Civica d’Arte Moderna in Turin. Read more via Artforum.

The Fondation Ricard launches a new editorial platform

One of France’s most prestigious art foundations has launched TextWork, a new platform aiming to “foster and support the work of artists active in the French art scene through the publication of critical essays produced by international writers.”

The project, launched with the support of the French Ministry of Culture, will feature essays by, among others, Mélanie Bouteloup (co-founder and director of Bétonsalon), Thomas Boutoux (writer, publisher and curator), and Marie Canet (independent curator, art historian and professor in aesthetics at the École des Beaux-Arts in Lyon).
