What are the most popular museums on Instagram? According to #hashtags, the Paris institution was the world’s most Instagrammed museum in 2017, surpassing the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art (both New York). Following in the rankings are the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (Los Angeles), the British Museum (London), the American Museum of Natural History (New York), the Whitney Museum of American Art (New York), the Victoria and Albert Museum (London), the Natural History Museum (London) and the Museum of Ice Cream. The Louvre was also the seventh most instagrammed place overall, with Disneyland (US), Times Square, Central Park and the Eiffel Tower preceding the Paris museum. More via Hyperallergic.

 

 

 

 

Patricia Barbizet leaves Artemis and François Pinault

Patricia Barbizet, the closest advisor to businessman and collector François Pinault is stepping down from her position as director of Artemis, the French holding company owned by Pinault himself, to focus on “personal projects”.

François Pinault’s son François-Henri, who is also CEO of global luxury group Kering, will succeed Barbizet, who will stay on Artemis’ board of directors. Read more on Bloomberg.

Hauser & Wirth announces worldwide representation of the Eduardo Chillida estate

The estate of the Spanish sculptor Eduardo Chillida, who passed away in 2002, will be represented worldwide by Hauser & Wirth. The gallery has also announced that the San Sebastian foundation dedicated to the artist, which was open by appointment only since 2011, will be open to the public in 2018.

Hauser & Wirth will feature works by Chillida at Art Basel Miami Beach in December, and a solo show will open in the gallery’s New York space next year. Read more via Hauser & Wirth.

Marlene Dumas gives $23,000 from Saxon Academy prize to emerging artists

The South African artist has announced that she will give the $23,000 cash prize from the 11th Saxon Academy of the Arts’ Hans Theo Richter Prize for Drawing and Graphic Arts to a scholarship program at Dresden’s Kupferstich-Kabinett in support of young artists.

Established in 1998 by artist Theo Richter, the Saxon Academy prize recognized Marlene Dumas’ “complex, yet fundamentally communicative work”, in the words of Ulrich Bischoff, former director of the Galerie Neue Meister and member of the jury. More via Artforum.
