Christie’s reveals details of David Rockefeller collection sale

After having secured the collection over the Summer, Christie’s has revealed that works that once belonged to David Rockefeller and his wife will be auctioned off during a standalone sale in Spring 2018 in a salesroom housed in the… Rockefeller Center. The collection could fetch up to $700 million, smashing the previous record for an estate sold at auction, the $484 million sale of work owned by Yves Saint Laurent.

Highlights in the upcoming sale include: Picasso’s Fillette à la corbeille fleurie (1905) estimated at $70 million, Matisse’s Odalisque couchée aux magnolias (1923) set to bring in $50 million, and Monet’s Nymphéas en fleur (1914–17) estimated to sell for $35 million. Read more on ARTnews.

Luis Manuel Otero Alcántara released on bail

The Cuban artist, who was arrested earlier this month for “illicit possession of construction materials”,  was released on November 10 after he paid $1,000 bail. The date of his upcoming trial has yet to be set.

The artist was arrested hours before he was expected to hold a press conference on the alternative Havana Biennial, which he was organizing following the cancellation of the state-sponsored Bienal de la Habana. Following Otero Alcántara’s arrest, artist Tania Bruguera launched a petition demanding his release, which was signed by 500 people. More information via Artforum.
