The Preis der Nationalgalerie goes to... Agnieszka Polska

The Polish artist, born in 1985, succeeds Anne Imhof as the prize laureate. The prestigious award recognizes the work of Berlin-based artists aged under 40.

The jury, consisting of MAXXI artistic director Hou Hanru and Hamburger Bahnhof curator Sven Beckstette, among others, said: “throughout her work, Polska ingeniously interweaves some of the most pressing issues of our time. She deftly creates a poetic and affective relationship between the visual and acoustic language of our digitally-infused daily lives by using contemporary, imaginary and cultural references—including scientific theories, early animation, and the utopian inclination of the avant-garde.” The prize does not include a cash prize, but a solo exhibition at a German museum for the winning artist. A Peter Doig work to lead Phillips’ November sale

After setting a new record for the artist in May, when the painting Rosedale (1991) sold for $28 million in London, Phillips has announced that it will offer Red House (1995–1996) by Peter Doig during its New York Contemporary Evening Sale on November 16. The star lot is estimated at between $18 and $22 million.

The work was acquired by its current owner for $3.1 million at Christie’s in 2008. Red House was also featured during the career-defining 1998 exhibition “Blizzard Seventy-Seven” at Kunsthalle Kiel. Read more on artnet.
