New York mayor to dedicate city’s arts budget to smaller municipal institutions

According to The New York Times, NYC mayor Bill de Blasio and his lieutenants are reexamining the city’s $178 million arts budget in order to give prominence to smaller institutions across the city — as opposed to the current favouring of Manhattan institutions. The reassessment of funding comes in the wake of Trump’s threat to erase the National Endowment for the Arts, leaving some institutions concerned for their financial future. Plans will be submitted to the City Council on July 1. More via The New York Times.
