Two hundred and forty staff members are being laid off at Qatar Museums along with considerable budget cuts and expenses restrictions.

The authority refused to comment on the culture budget but the cutbacks come at the time of a major oil revenue collapse and the arts in the oil-rich state seem to be taking the greatest hit. Story via the Financial Times. 

In what is almost an unsurprising announcement, Gagosian is to open another gallery, bringing the total up to 17 spaces under the Gagosian empire umbrella. The 4,000 square feet space is to open on 20 Hawthorne Street, just around the corner from the SF MoMA due to reopen on May 14. Gagosian SF will open on May 18 under the direction of Anna Gavazzi Asseily.



In other gallery—San Francisco news, John Berggruen Gallery is to relocate. After 45 years on Grant Avenue, Berggruen is to join Gagosian on Hawthorne Street, number 10, in a 10,000-square-foot space. For more information on both spaces, Art News has coverage here. 



Just weeks after dropping Magnus Renfrew as the Deputy Chairman of Asia, Bonhams have named  Edward Wilkinson as Executive Director, Asia and Ingrid Dudek as Head of Modern & Contemporary Art, Asia. Both Wilkinson and Dudek were appointed internally having been with Bonham’s since 2011 and 2015 respectively. Read the release on Art Daily.
