José Pedro Croft has been named as the representative for Portugal at the 2017 Venice Biennial, the pavilion will be curated by art historian John Pinharanda. Born in 1957 Croft lives and works in Lisbon, his work will be displayed on the Venetian Island of Giudecca during the biennial.

More announcements regarding the New York May auctions: Phillips are to present three works by artist Mark Bradford all from the same collector. Each work is guaranteed by the auction house and together the three pieces hold a pre-sale estimate of $4 to 7 million. The works in question are Building the Big White Whale, 2012; Mixed Signals, 2009 and Untitled (Corner of Desire and Piety) III 2009. More on Art Market Monitor.


On March 16 the J Paul Getty Trust in Los Angeles and the Rijksmuseum signed an agreement to jointly develop data technologies for the service of art history research and conservation. The details of the project remain vague as there are apparently “no concrete plans” but the institutions wish to work on imaging, machine learning and interactive visualisation technologies. Read more on The Art Newspaper.


Paul Kasmin Gallery in New York is now representing artist Roxy Paine with a solo show planned within the coming year. Born in 1966 Paine is best known for his sculpture work and is currently exhibiting at the Gund Gallery in Columbus, Ohio. Paul Kasmin announces the news via the gallery site.
