British artist Damien Hirst is returning to New York’s Gagosian gallery. In 2012, the Hirst had ended his 17 year relationship with the gallery, in order to “think about the work and not think so much about the market”, according to Larry Gagosian.

The gallery’s booth at Frieze New York in May will feature past works by Hirst,The New York Times reports.


Hong Kong’s M+ Museum will finally open its first permanent space. After years of delays, the museum will open in September with a pavilion designed by architects Vincent Pang, Tynnon Chow, and Lisa Cheung. M+’s first solo show will feature work by artist Tsang Kin-Wah. More details on The Art Newspaper.


American billionaire Leonard Blavatnik has made a substantial donation to the Victoria and Albert Museum (V&A) of London. While the amount remains undisclosed, the V&A has confirmed it will name its entrance hall after Blavatnik. Read more on The Art Newspaper.

New York’s MoMA is also the recipient of a generous donation. Billionaire collector David Geffen has gifted the museum with $100 million, which will contribute to financing MoMa’s latest expansion project, notably the creation of a new 36,000 square meter exhibition space in the 53W53 residential tower designed by Jean Nouvel. The Metropolitan Museum of Art, on the other hand, is facing serious financial difficulties. With a $10 million annual deficit, the New York museum has announced a 24-month financial reconstructing, which could entail staff reductions and a reduced programming for the next two years. The New York Times has more information.
