Following the announcement of plans to expand its presence in the international art market earlier this year, MCH group — the expo conglomerate owning Art Basel — seems to have its eyes set on Art Brussels.

Representatives of the company have allegedly discussed the possible purchase with the fair’s board of directors, artnet news reports.

This week at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art visitors were bowled over by a well-executed prank. When 17-year-old TJ Khayatan set a pair of sunglasses on the floor of the exhibition space, visitors were fooled into thinking the untitled “piece” was a real artwork. The teenager’s antic attracted a wave of social media attention, but also triggered a wider debate on the nature of contemporary art. Read more on The Independent.

New details have emerged surrounding L’Homme Assis — a now infamous painting by Amedeo Modigliani. The $35 million artwork, at the center of an ongoing legal dispute between Philippe Maestracci and the Nahmad family, was allegedly looted by the Nazis from gallerist Oscar Stettiner in 1944 and sold to the Van der Klip family, where it stayed until 1996, when it was auctioned at Christie’s. The Bronx Museum of Art has announced the launch of a $25 million campaign aimed at funding the museum’s planned expansion and renovation. The endowment fund will allow for the creation of new gallery spaces and the establishment of a number of educational programs. The New York Times has more information.

Cincinnati-based FotoFocus — the month-long photography biennial — has revealed the list of exhibiting venues for its 2016 edition. The event, running from October 1 through 31, will encourage artists and galleries to explore the theme of “Photography, the Undocument”.
