The Art Newspaper has published an International Art Fair Report in collaboration with British society MOMART, provider of premier fine art transport, storage and installation services.

 

The study, shedding light on the growth and evolution of international art fairs, shows that the number of fairs has grown by 53% over the last fifteen years in North America, by 60% in Europe, by 80% in South America and by 85% in Asia and Australia. Focused on the world’s 40 most prominent fairs, the study reveals that 80% of the participating galleries (4,269 in total) are based in America or Europe. The Armory Show — New York’s premier international art fair — has announced the list of curators for its 2017 edition. Jarrett Gregory, currently curator at LACMA and Eric Shiner, Director of the Andy Warhol Museum, will curate next year’s edition of the fair, running from March 2 through 5. Currently head of the Dulwich Picture Gallery, Xavier Bray has been appointed new director of the Wallace Collection in London, replacing Christoph Vogtherr. The Art Newspaper reports.



Art collector and board member Daniel H. Sallick has been appointed board chair of the Hirshhorn Museum, whilst Adam Singer — a Phoenix-based collector — will be welcomed as a new board member. The museum has also received a $500,000 bequest from former board chair J. Tomilson Hill and current board member Janine Hill, aimed at supporting museum programming and infrastructural support. The Sobey Art Foundation and the National Gallery of Canada (NGC) have announced the five shortlisted artists for the 2016 Sobey Award, the $50,000 prize awarded to under-40 Canadian artists. The winner will be announced in November at the NGC in Ottawa, The Globe and Mail reports.
