Artist, photographer, activist and filmmaker Trevor Paglen is this year’s recipient of the $44,000 Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize.

The jury recognized Paglen’s exhibition “The Octopus” — which took place last year at the Frankfurter Kunstverein (Frankfurt, Germany) — exploring subjects of government and military surveillance. The jury, presided by London Photographers’ Gallery director Brett Rogers, also awarded Laura El-Tantawy, Erik Kessels, and Tobias Zielony, all of whom received a £3,000 prize. Things are ... moving in New York. Following the announcement of the expansion of Dominique Lévy’s space in the city — and the move of galerie Perrotin to a new location, gallery Lehmann Maupin has revealed plans to open a new 8,500 square foot gallery space at West 24th street and 10th Avenue, by the High Line park in Chelsea. The gallery is set to open in 2017; its three floors will be designed by architect Peter Marino. More via Art Forum.

A Modigliani estimated at $40 million will be auctioned at Sotheby’s London on June 21 on the occasion of its Impressionist & Modern Art evening sale. The artwork, depicting Jeanne Hébuterne — the artist’s muse — has been held in a private collection since 1986. Read more on Artdaily.
