Brazilian artist Tunga passed away yesterday at the age of 64. Known to some as Antônio José de Barros de Carvalho e Melo Mourão, his work has been exhibited internationally, and is held in the collections of institutions such as the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles and Stockholm's Moderna Museet.

In 2006, he was the first contemporary artist to be exhibited at the Louvre with his installation A la Lumiere des Deux Mondes.artnet news has more information.

Nu sur nu, a painting by French artist Marcel Duchamp, was sold on behalf of NGO Doctors Without Borders for €1.2 million last Monday on the occasion of Artcurial’s Impressionist & Modern Sale, a record for a painting by the artist. The work — classed as a national treasure earlier this year — was sold by the association to finance their essential international aid work, Le Monde reports.

Artist duo Gilbert & George have revealed plans to convert a house in London’s East End into a nonprofit gallery and foundation for contemporary art. The new space, to be named The Gilbert & George Centre, will host two exhibitions per year and welcome an estimated 200 visitors every week, free of charge. More on The Art Newspaper.

New York-based Manos Gallery is to leave its current 540 West 29th Street Chelsea location after sixteen years to move into a new, two-story space in Chinatown on 41 Elizabeth Street. The gallery, which will be closed in the summer whilst the new exhibition space is under renovation, has also named Ebony L.
