Following the announcement of the opening of a New York outpost earlier this month, Almine Rech gallery has revealed plans to open a new exhibition space in London.

Hollywood talent agency UTA has announced that artist Ai Weiwei has joined the Fine Arts division of the company. The agency, which represents, among others, Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp, manages the “non-art related aspects of the careers of their represented artists” and will set up distribution for “The Human Flow”, Weiwei’s upcoming documentary on the global refugee crisis. artnet news has more information.

SFMoMa has announced that French curator Clément Chéroux will now direct its photography collection. Chéroux is to replace Sandra Phillips, who will leave the institution after 29 years. The museum has also announced a donation of 78 photographs by patrons Lisa and John Pritzker, including works by André Kertész, Vito Acconci and William Wegman. The Menil Drawing Institute announced on Thursday one of the largest donations in its history: the Houston museum is to receive 110 drawings from trustees Janie C. Lee and Louisa Stude Sarofim, including works by Jasper Johns, Jackson Pollock and Robert Rauschenberg. The New York Times has more.

The shortlisted artists for the 2017 Mario Merz Prize have been announced as follows: Francesco Arena, Petrit Halilaj, Gili Lavy, Shahryar Nashat, and Suha Traboulsi. The winner of the prize, awarded to contemporary artists and musicians, will produce a solo exhibition that will on display in museums in Turin and Switzerland. More on artnet news.

Marie Lavandier, currently director of the museums of the French city of Nice, has been named new director of Louvre-Lens, the outpost of the Parisian museum located in the Pas-de-Calais region of Northern France. Lavandier will replace current director Xavier Dectot in September, Le Journal des Arts reports.

Skarstedt Gallery has announced the opening of its new London outpost at 8 Bennet Street, St James, in October 2016. The new exhibition space, designed by Thomas Croft Architects, will cover a 4,000 square-foot surface and will feature three interconnected galleries.
